All about the PTE Core Exam
The general-English version of PTE, accepted for Canadian economic immigration and work permits.
PTE Core tests everyday English rather than academic English. It is accepted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for economic immigration, and the tasks lean toward workplace and social situations instead of lectures and journals.
The structure mirrors PTE Academic — one computer-based session, three parts, integrated scoring — but the task list differs: there is an email to write, and no academic essay or lecture re-tell.

- Receive your score report, typically within 48 hours.

How does the PTE Core format test a candidate's knowledge from each module?
Speaking and Writing Module
Responses are judged on how naturally and clearly you handle real situations — a voicemail, a complaint, a workplace email — rather than on academic register.
Reading Module
Texts are shorter and more practical than the academic version, but the item types and their scoring are identical.
Listening Module
Recordings cover conversations and announcements as often as lectures, with the same single-play rule.
